Math 206C / H120C: Introduction to Graduate Algebra, Spring 2016
Welcome. This term, we will reap the rewards of our study of rings and modules by applying them to linear algebra. We will then study spaces with inner product; and conclude with an in-depth look at the theory of fields. As before, the aim of the course is to use the abstract theory to gain an intuition for working with concrete examples in abstract algebra, and to gain experience in understanding and producing sound mathematical arguments.
- Syllabus
- Primary text: Abstract Algebra, Dummit & Foote
- Secondary text: Algebra, Artin
- Highly recommended for extra reading: Algebra, Chapter 0, Aluffi
Notes for each lecture are available in the EEE DropBox for this class.
###Homework
- Homework for this class is assigned on a weekly basis. Each homework is due in class at the date specified in the pdf file (usually on Fridays). The homeworks will be e-mailed to you (and posted on EEE).
